Predictions For The Limited Series Categories At The Emmys - Awards Outlook
Predictions for the Limited Series Categories at the Emmys
The Emmys will be arriving in about a month and so this column will be diving deep into predictions for the categories, to be followed by a final predictions post the week before the big night. First up will be the Limited Series categories and, in short, these categories will likely be dominated by Baby Reindeer.
Best Limited or Anthology Series
Baby Reindeer
Fargo
Lessons in Chemistry
Ripley
True Detective: Night Country
There’s really no denying Baby Reindeer for many of these categories, including Best Limited Series. The only thing standing in its way is the scandal that has been getting heat recently of what was actually true from the story… but that likely doesn’t have enough legs to hit the brakes on that momentum. However, even with the controversies there isn’t a clear second place that has solidified itself to take up the mantle, and so it seems ever likely that Baby Reindeer will take the top prize.
Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie
Matt Bomer (Fellow Travelers)
Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer)
Jon Hamm (Fargo)
Tom Hollander (Feud: Capote vs. the Swans)
Andrew Scott (Ripley)
The Baby Reindeer momentum will continue in the category of Best Actor in a Limited Series where Richard Gadd will probably be nominated and awarded, not just because of his exceptional performance, but also to honor him for creating the series. There is a chance that Jon Hamm could be honored after having a stellar year in television, or Tom Hollander for accurately portraying an actual person, but this is Gadd’s to lose.
Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie
Jodie Foster (True Detective: Night Country)
Brie Larson (Lessons in Chemistry)
Juno Temple (Fargo)
Sofía Vergara (Griselda)
Naomi Watts (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans)
This is one of the few categories that does not have Baby Reindeer involved and it leaves it all wide open. The strongest contender is Jodie Foster for her performance in True Detective: Night Country which was spectacular and, along with her legendary status, can easily lead to her being honored. There is still plenty of wiggle room for someone else to step in, like Brie Larson for Lessons in Chemistry or Juno Temple in Fargo which are both shows and performances that have gotten a great deal of attention.
Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie
Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers)
Robert Downey Jr. (The Sympathizer)
Tom Goodman-Hill (Baby Reindeer)
John Hawkes (True Detective: Night Country)
Lamorne Morris (Fargo)
Lewis Pullman (Lessons in Chemistry)
Treat Williams (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans)
While Baby Reindeer has a nomination in this category, it was a complete surprise and also quite deserved, but this is another category that is fairly wide open. Robert Downey Jr. seems like the very likely winner as he has been having his best year while he plays multiple characters, all with showy performances which has caught the eye of most everyone.
Best Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie
Dakota Fanning (Ripley, Netflix)
Lily Gladstone (Under the Bridge)
Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer)
Aja Naomi King (Lessons in Chemistry)
Diane Lane (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans)
Nava Mau (Baby Reindeer)
Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country)
Once again Baby Reindeer will reign supreme in a category with Best Supporting Actress, where Jessica Gunning is likely to take the top prize. The only thing standing in her way is that the character she is allegedly playing is suing Netflix for misrepresentation and slander, and yet those controversies have hardly stood in the way of winning awards in the past.
The five wins in these categories are fairly solidified, but there is plenty of room for an exciting surprise here and there.
