It’s rough times for Zack Snyder over at Netflix as his Rebel Moon films (both the PG-13 releases and the recent director’s cuts) were met with high criticism from fans and critics alike, and now his Army of the Dead follow up projects seem to have been put on ice at Netflix.

The Wrap (via What’s on Netflix) reports that the planned prequels and sequels, both in terms of films and animated series like Planet of the Dead and Lost Vegas, have been “quietly cancelled” at the streamer. Army of the Dead, the first film of the franchise, debuted in May 2021 to high streaming numbers and positive reviews. The subsequent prequel Army of Thieves, was released later that same year to a similar response.

It’s likely that Netflix is feeling uneasy about Snyder given the response that Rebel Moon received (though this writer personally believes they fumbled the entire process and should have just gone with the director’s cuts instead of allegedly pushing for PG-13 versions as well). It’s been a tough road for the innovative director of 300 and Watchmen over the years with his Netflix agreement a bright spot at the time after a tumultuous up-and-down with Warner Bros. and DC.
