For a lot of people, there’s always that one director that everyone knows and would go see. I think the biggest example of this right now is Christopher Nolan, for good reason. Sure, there are other names out there that could be like that for the general public. I think Denis Villeneuve is the closest to that now, but I think a dark horse here is Ryan Coogler. Him teaming up with Michael B. Jordan for every movie he’s directed is always something fun to see, especially since they’re great together and separately. I’ve been following the announcements and developments of this movie since it got announced this past January, and it feels like this is the quickest production I’ve seen for a film in recent memory. Either way, we now have Coogler’s first original film since 2013, Sinners.

There’s not too much out there in terms of plot yet, but we know that Sinners follows twin brothers trying to outrun their past. However, when they return home, they discover that an even greater evil has taken root and have been waiting for them to come back. As wonderfully mysterious as the trailer is, I actually think it hides too much. Based on what’s come out with casting news, it involves vampires fighting the KKK in the 1930s South. Not much else is known outside of that, especially since we learned that this movie was called Sinners just a few days ago. However, I think that we know that Coogler can knock anything his name is attached to out of the park: Black Panther, Creed, even as a producer on Judas and The Black Messiah. He’s got such an incredible body of work that it now feels like an event whenever he’s got a movie coming out. On top of dabbling into the horror genre, I really think Sinners could be something special.

Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan (Creed, Black Panther) in a dual role, alongside Hailee Steinfeld (Arcane, True Grit), Jack O’Connell (Ferrari, Back to Black), Wunmi Mosaku (Deadpool & Wolverine, His House), Jayme Lawson (The Batman, The Woman King), Omar Benson Miller (Ballers, 8 Mile), Lola Kirke (Mozart in the Jungle, Gone Girl), Li Jun Li (Babylon, the upcoming Spider-Noir), and Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods, Get Shorty).

Sinners will be released in theaters on March 7th, 2025 via Warner Bros.
