Even if an indie studio like A24 is moving towards more action-oriented films or bigger budgets with more of their announcements, I’m glad that they’re still letting filmmakers take big swings and make what they want to make. I recently watched The Zone of Interest, the newest film from Jonathan Glazer and one of the more experimental films from the studio, and while it wasn’t entirely my cup of tea, the fact that it even exists on such a large scale is great on its own.

That last bit is what came to my mind when I first saw the trailer for Tuesday, the directorial debut of Daina O. Pusić. This stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus (VEEP, You Hurt My Feelings) as a mother caring for her sick daughter. One day, a talking, shapeshifting bird that claims itself to be Death arrives at her daughter’s wings. Now, the mother and daughter must confront Death itself in what A24’s website describes as a “heart-rending fairy tale.” I agree with the fairy tale aspect of this, mainly because when watching the trailer at first, I had no idea what I was even in for. It seems pretty interesting for the most part, but I suppose we’ll have to see how it plays out.

Tuesday also stars Lola Petticrew (She Said, Wolf), Arinzé Kene (Love Again, I’m Your Woman), Leah Harvey (Foundation, Fighting with My Family), Ellie James (The Lost Daughter, I May Destroy You), Taru Devani (Animal, Mission Raniganj), Jay Simpson (Pistol, Chernobyl), David Sibley, Nathan Amzi (Good Omens, Cruella), Azalea Amzi, Justin Edwards (Empire of Light, Wonka), and Florencia Nunez.

There’s no current release date for Tuesday, but given that the trailer’s up, it will most likely be released this year.
