‘The Crow’: Along With True Love, Remakes Never Die - Trailer
From Ryan Cordaro
Here’s another entry in the “I still haven’t seen this” series: I haven’t seen or read anything relating to The Crow. At this point, everyone knows what happened on the set of the first film, where its star Brandon Lee was killed due to an on-set accident. If I’m being honest, that’s really why I’ve avoided the movie for so long now. I know it has a pretty big cult following, and I feel like I’m gonna have to sit down and give it a shot at some point because I’m most likely going to watch this new version at some point. I just feel like it’ll be a much more somber watch given the circumstances of Lee’s death. Either way, The Crow has become a fully-fledged franchise, with this new film acting as a reboot of the series.
In this reboot, Bill Skarsgård (John Wick: Chapter 4, the upcoming Nosferatu) takes on the role Eric Draven, a musician who is resurrected from the dead to seek vengeance against the gang who murdered him and his fiancée. This reboot has been in the works for at least 15 years, the first mentions of it being in 2008, with Stephen Norrington directing and Mark Wahlberg being up for the main role. It’s practically been in development hell with so many names attached to direct and star that it’d basically be a whole new post to describe how many people were going to make this before landing on Skarsgård and director Rupert Sanders.
The remake also stars FKA twigs (Honey Boy), Danny Huston (Yellowstone, The Aviator), Isabella Wei (1899), Laura Birn (Foundation, A Walk Among the Tombstones), Sami Bouajila (The Siege, The Adventures of Felix), and Jordan Bolger (The Woman King, The Book of Boba Fett).
The Crow hits theaters from Lionsgate on June 7th, 2024 which is less than a month after the 30th anniversary of the original movie.
