I’ve never been able to say why, but I’ve always liked Ben Affleck. Maybe it’s his recent Artists Equity project, or maybe it’s like a good redemption story in Hollywood, but I also do enjoy him as an actor and director. Every now and then, he’s in a project that may not catch my attention on its own, but Affleck has become one of the actors where if he’s in a movie, I pay attention to it. That may be why I enjoy his Batman, if I’m being totally honest. One of those underrated movies that I think about every now and then is The Accountant, something that would normally seem like a direct-to-video action movie, but with a great cast and even better action bits, it’s stuck in my mind for the past nine years it’s been out. Now, somehow, we have a sequel to it, which I couldn’t have imagined happening when the first movie released.

Ben Affleck reprises his role as Christian Wolff, an autistic accountant who launders money for some of the most dangerous criminals on the planet. When an old acquaintance of a Treasury Agent is murdered, leaving behind the message “find the accountant,” the agent must find Wolff and team up with his estranged brother to find out who is behind the killing. I think making a sequel to The Accountant after this long is such a strange pull, but I did see that the first one has always been underrated. It’s also one of those movies that I always seem to at least watch a little bit of when I see it’s on or if a scene pops in my recommended feed on YouTube. Maybe they’re tapping into that audience, but I honestly don’t have too much to say about this even existing. This could be a lot of fun, as someone who does enjoy action movies. I know it’s a stretch, I’m sorry, but The Accountant 2 could end up being a surprise hit. Count me in.

The Accountant 2 stars Affleck (Gone Girl, Argo), Jon Bernthal (The Bear, the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again), Cynthia Addai-Robinson (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Chicago Med), Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Cowboy Bebop), and J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Invincible).

MGM is releasing The Accountant 2 in theaters on April 25th, 2025.
