‘Spaceman’: New Trailer for ‘Chernobyl’ Director’s Sci-Fi Drama Starring Adam Sandler Lands - Trailer
From Ryan Cordaro
I feel like it’s been known that Adam Sandler can be a good dramatic actor. His turns in Punch Drunk Love and Uncut Gems are some of my favorites from him, although there may be some bias because I’m not the biggest fan of his comedic films. I still have to catch The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) and Hustle, which are both on Netflix, where most of his newest films end up going because of the massive deal he has with the studio.
Spaceman is actually an outlier for the “Adam Sandler on Netflix” subgenre in the way that this isn’t produced by Sandler. Based on the novel “Spaceman of Bohemia” by Jaroslav Kalfař, Sandler stars as Jakub, an astronaut that’s sent to the edge of the galaxy to collect ancient stardust. As his life on Earth begins to fall apart as well as his mental stability, Jakub turns to the only thing that could potentially fix everything: an extraterrestrial creature from the beginning of time that’s lurking in the shadows of his ship.
Outside of Sandler, Spaceman’s cast includes Paul Dano (The Fabelmans, The Batman), Carey Mulligan (Maestro, Saltburn), Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory, the Trolls franchise), Lena Olin (Remember Me, Hunters), and Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet, Marcel the Shell With Shoes On).
At the time of writing, it’s unknown if Spaceman will get a limited theatrical release like previous Netflix originals The Killer and Maestro, but it’s set to release on Netflix on March 1st, 2024.
