‘Rebel Moon – The Director's Cuts’: Zack Snyder Serves Double the Cuts - Trailer

I feel like I’m playing with fire whenever I talk about Zack Snyder now. Not to get into anything specific because I want to keep this streamlined, but Snyder has become one of the most divisive filmmakers working right now. His work in DC has been talked about for ages and will be until the end of time, but the idea of an original Snyderverse was something that interested me in the past. Now, though, I’d be lying if I didn’t say that my expectations weren’t lowered because of his two latest movies, the Netflix two-parter Rebel Moon. It’s a different conversation about why there’s even a director’s cut for a streaming movie that seemingly gave Snyder full creative control, but a director’s cut worked for Justice League, so maybe it’ll work for Rebel Moon.

I don’t think I have to get deep into the details of Rebel Moon now, especially if you ended up watching them or even heard about it. However, the overall gist is Zack Snyder’s Star Wars. Snyder’s talked a lot about how much more mythology and overall worldbuilding that’s going to be packed into the two directors cuts, titled Chalice of Blood and Curse of Forgiveness, respectively, but the main appeal here is that both are R-rated and Netflix themselves describes them as “viciously sexier” and “bloodier.” Even when you open the trailer, you immediately get hit with the red band. Similar to Snyder’s cut of Justice League, both Rebel Moon cuts are much longer, with the combined runtime being over six hours long. Even if I don’t enjoy a movie, I am a sucker for a good sci-fi world, so if it does end up meaning more of that, I’d be interested to check it out.

Expect new footage and even new takes that includes Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service, CLIMAX), Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, The Gentlemen), Michiel Huisman (The Flight Attendant, Kate), Ed Skrein (Deadpool, Midway), Djimon Honsou (Blood Diamond, Gran Turismo), Bae Doona (Cloud Atlas, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance), Staz Nair (Game of Thrones, Supergirl), E. Duffy, Cleopatra Coleman (Infinity Pool, Cobweb), Ray Fisher (Zack Snyder’s Justice League, True Detective), Fra Free (Hawkeye, Les Misérables), Jena Malone (Horizon – An American Saga: Chapter 1, The Neon Demon), Charlotte Maggi (the upcoming The Surfer), Alfonso Herrera (Ozark, Sense8), Corey Stoll (Billions, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania), Rhian Rhees (For All Mankind, Halloween), Cary Elwes (Saw, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning), and Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs, Those About to Die).

Like the PG-13 versions, parts one and two are separated into their own movies. Both are set to drop on Netflix August 2nd, 2024.
