‘Paddington in Peru’ Trailer: The Bear Is Back In Town
From Ryan Cordaro
I've always felt like I was out of the bit with the Paddington movies. The first I had heard that both of those movies, especially Paddington 2, were surprisingly incredible was when I was watching a completely different movie: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, where Nicolas Cage plays himself in an action-comedy. There’s a scene with him and his co-star Pedro Pascal where they watch Paddington 2, and as the movie ends, Cage starts crying and says that “Paddington 2 is the greatest movie he’s ever seen.” For a long time, Paddington 2 was the only movie on Rotten Tomatoes to earn a perfect 100% critic score, so that’s a big deal too. So, there’s no wonder that a third movie was on the way.
The third film in the Paddington series sends the bear to Peru so he can visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now lives at the Home for Retired Bears. With the his adoptive family, the Browns, in tow, a thrilling adventure ensues when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and up to the mountain peaks of Peru. The director of the first two movies, Paul King, doesn’t return to direct. Dougal Wilson, mainly known for directing music videos for Coldplay, LCD Soundsystem, and Massive Attack, makes his directorial debut with Peru, with King having a story credit. I personally haven’t seen both Paddington movies and even King’s most recent movie, the Timothée Chalamet-starring Wonka, but hearing how excited people are for these movies means that I should watch them at some point.
Paddington in Peru stars Ben Whishaw (The Lobster, No Time to Die), Imelda Staunton (The Crown, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget), Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey, Notting Hill), Emily Mortimer (The New Look, Mary Poppins Returns), Antonio Banderas (The Skin I Live In, the upcoming Babygirl), Olivia Colman (The Bear, Wonka), Julie Walters (the Harry Potter franchise, Billy Elliot), Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin, Carla Tous (30 Coins, The Girl in the Mirror), and Jim Broadbent (Moulin Rouge!, My Lady Jane).
While it will release internationally this November, Paddington in Peru will hit theaters in North America on January 17th, 2025.
