‘Nightbitch’ Trailer: Amy Adams Goes Whole Hound

There’s been a quote going around for Nightbitch that director Marielle Heller has been using to describe the movie. Heller says that this is a “comedy for women, and a horror movie for men.” That quote right there is honestly very funny, but there have also been teases for some body horror in there too. I suppose that quote alone is going to get me to see this, but I also really do like Amy Adams a lot. I feel like it’s been a while since she’s been in a movie I’ve really enjoyed, so I hope that this will be the first in a while.

Based on the book by Rachel Yoder, a woman is thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs. She slowly embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, as well as becoming increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a dog. Heller’s previously directed A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and Can You Ever Forgive Me?, with both movies receiving Oscar noms for the performances from Tom Hanks and Melissa McCarthy, respectively. That’s been fueling the fire of Adams potentially getting an Oscar win after six previous nominations, and I like her enough that I do want to see her win an Oscar at some point. I’m not entirely sold on Nightbitch being the one to do it, even if it’s one of the coolest names for a movie in recent memory. It’s also worth noting that Nightbitch was going to originally go straight to Hulu, but was sent to theaters after strong reactions from test screenings.

Nightbitch stars Adams (Arrival, the upcoming Klara and the Sun), Scoot McNairy (Argo, the upcoming Speak No Evil), Zoë Chao (The Afterparty, the upcoming Creature Commandos), Mary Holland (Happiest Season, The Big Door Prize), Kerry O’Malley (The Killer, Snowpiercer), and Jessica Harper (Suspiria, Phantom of the Paradise).

Searchlight releases Nightbitch in select theaters on December 6th, 2024, just squeezing in for the Oscar race this year. It premieres at the Toronto Film Festival this Saturday, so reviews will already be out this weekend.
