Episode 5 opens with the President being wheeled into the emergency room after the attack that concluded last week's episode. Fury is in his ear telling him that it wasn’t the Russians who were responsible for the attack and not to trust Rhodey as the doctors tell him to back off.

Gravik and his team arrive at their base. Pagon says we should be happy that Talos is dead but Gravik reminds him that the President was their target. Pagon asks why should we trust you if you haven’t killed Fury after having plenty of opportunities. Gravik extends his arm and stabs him in the chest. Gravik tells him that none of them have voices, they’re faceless and nameless. Gravik puts a hit out on Varra saying Fury was only on the motorway because she disobeyed a direct order. He then calls Rhodey and tells him to let the Presidents know that the Skrulls were partly responsible for the attack.

As Rhodey goes to the hospital to deliver the message to the president he’s intercepted by Fury who immediately pulls a gun on him. He says that he’ll never let Rhodey near the President, Rhodey says that he’s going to release the footage of Fury killing Maria Hill in sixty seconds. We then see Sonya barge into a man’s office and he asks her if she heard of the attack on the President she says no and shoots him in the leg revealing he’s a Skrull, she tells him to start talking as she’s looking for Dr. Rosa Dalton.

Gravik’s men are confused about why he killed Pagon. The man admits he’s scared, Rhodey calls Gravik and tells him the President is out of surgery and he’ll let him know about the strike. Gravik reminds him what’ll happen if he doesn’t and Rhodey hangs up on him. Gravik is jumped by his men, four of them try to hold him down but they’re no match for him so he throws them around the room with little effort. The man calls him a monster and he slits his throat in front of the rest of New Skrullos.

Fury meets with G’Iah, he tries to talk to her about Talos but she cuts him off. She says he died on a foreign planet on a foreign road, implying that it was for nothing. Fury reminds her that it’s her time and not to let the grief paralyze her. Fury asks her about the DNA that Gravik stole, saying he only stole that DNA because he couldn’t find “The Harvest”. She says she needs to bury her father and Fury tells her he’s off to Finland.

Sonya is looking at some samples through a microscope as she interrogates Dr. Dalton about them. Her husband puts a gun to her head and says he won’t let his wife betray Gravik, Sonya shoots Rosa’s husband without hesitating. We then see G’Iah with her father's body, she takes him to Priscilla as instructed. When no one answers she’s suspicious but Priscilla is there with a gun pointed. She’s paranoid about Gravik’s men coming to kill her. She says Fury sent her and then she lowers her weapon. Rhodey tells the President they should strike on New Skrullos as they were involved with the attack, he’s weary of the idea.

Gravik calls Fury and tells him to bring him The Harvest and if he doesn’t he’s going to bomb the Skrull base. Fury then boards his plane to Finland, new passport in hand. G’Iah and Priscilla mourn Talos as she puts her mother's ring on his chest. Priscilla hands her a torch and she recites the Skrull prayer and lights the bed of wood he’s lying on. G’Iah asks her why Gravik wants to kill her, shots are fired into the house. Priscilla and G’Iah fight the men off with relative ease.

Fury is picked up by Sonya at the airport, she tells him that she gave Rhodey corroboration on the New Skrullos site and Fury is shocked she gave it to him, but Sonya had no idea Rhodey was a Skrull until Fury told her. Fury tells Sonya Gravik’s plan to blow up his own people and their base to get The Harvest from Fury. The Harvest is some sort of DNA blend of The Avenger's blood from the battle with Thanos that Gravik can use for his Super Skrull machine. Sonya wants to know why she hasn’t called any of the Avengers. He says we can’t keep relying on them and this battle with Gravik is personal. Fury takes “The Harvest” vial from one of his tombstones and tells Sonya he’s going to give it to him. He puts on his black leather jacket and his famed eyepatch, gets on the phone, and says let’s finish this as the episode ends.

It seems to me that your enjoyment of next week’s finale is hinged on you buying into “The Harvest”. I was so locked into this series through four episodes. I loved the political intrigue and the “real world” ramifications of the Skrulls being revealed to the world. However, The Avenger's blood being used to build a machine being the huge MacGuffin revealed in the penultimate episode seems like a bit of a stretch and that’s putting it mildly. I hope the finale is longer than half an hour so we can get a finale that can somehow tie this all together.

Secret Invasion is new every Wednesday on Disney+.
