‘Love Lies Bleeding’: First Trailer For ‘Saint Maud’ Director’s New Film Electrifies Sundance This Weekend - Trailer
From Ryan Cordaro
There’s always an oddly specific distinction with a movie that you’d have. Even if it’s a good or bad distinction, it helps stick out in your mind. One of mine is a movie that “changes what I thought the plot was within the final second.” I’m being literal when I say this is the *final second.* That distinction belongs to Saint Maud, a psychological horror-thriller from a few years back. Ever since I caught Saint Maud, I’ve been dying to see what writer-director Rose Glass has in store for the future, and now we have it.
Like Saint Maud before this, Love Lies Bleeding is being released by A24, but unlike Saint Maud, this is more of a thriller than a horror movie. Co-written by Glass and Weronika Tofilska, we follow Lou, a reclusive gym manager, who falls hard for Jackie, an ambitious bodybuilder who’s en route to Vegas to pursue her dreams. When their love ignites, so does violence, and they’re both slowly pulled into the web of Lou’s ruthless crime family.
Love Lies Bleeding is led by Kristen Stewart (Spencer, Crimes of the Future) and Katy O’Brian (The Mandalorian, the upcoming Twisters), but its cast also includes Jena Malone (Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire, The Hunger Games franchise), Anna Baryshnikov (Dickinson, Manchester by the Sea), Dave Franco (Day Shift, The Disaster Artist), and Ed Harris (Top Gun: Maverick, The Truman Show).
Love Lies Bleeding hits theaters on March 8th, but it has its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival later this week, so reviews of this will reportedly be dropping very soon.
