‘Longlegs’: First Haunting Trailer Starts The Hunt For Nicolas Cage’s Mysterious Serial Killer - Trailer

I love it when the trailers and overall marketing for movies intentionally hide what’s happening in their movies. I feel that it’s something all movies and shows should do, but I understand that nothing’s perfect, so I’ll take what I can get, especially for a movie so mysterious at its core. That’s why Longlegs has practically wormed its way into my brain ever since I’ve first heard about it. Before I even get into what the movie itself is about, the marketing has already been truly mysterious. All throughout January, small clips (if you could even call them that) for the movie were uploaded onto NEON’s YouTube channel without any indication of a title, cast, or a release date. All that came with it was a sentence which titled the movie. Like the trailer further down, titles like “Every year there is another.” and “Remember to say your prayers.” were the only thing we had outside of the truly horrifying teasers and a set of posters released a few days before the full trailer dropped down below.

Maika Monroe (It Follows, Significant Other) plays Lee Harker, a gifted new recruit at the FBI who’s assigned to an unsolved case about an elusive serial killer. As the investigation continues, occult elements become uncovered, alongside a connection between Harker and the killer. Now, Harker must act quickly before the killer strikes again. The movie’s directed by Osgood Perkins, who’s previously directed The Blackcoat’s Daughter and the excellent Gretel & Hansel. He also happens to be the son of Anthony Perkins, who originally played Norman Bates in Psycho, so maybe that’s where the tension that will hopefully be throughout the film comes from.

Alongside Monroe, Nicolas Cage (Dream Scenario, Mandy) plays the serial killer Harker is hunting. The cast also includes Alicia Witt (Vanilla Sky, I Care A Lot), Blair Underwood (Origin, Deep Impact), Lisa Chandler (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Altered Carbon), Erin Boyes (It’s a Wonderful Knife, I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House), and Dakota Daulby (Billy the Kid, the upcoming Shogun). Outside of what I’ve mentioned, there are no other details about Longlegs, which I hope stays the same until it releases.

Longlegs hits theaters on July 12th, 2024 from NEON.
