We’re already getting some more religious-adjacent horror movies after The Nun II, which is one of those movies that I know I watched. I remember clicking play on MAX, but I don’t remember a single thing about it. We also had The Pope’s Exorcist last year, an admittedly fun movie with an equally Russell Crowe performance. Only a month after this movie I’m writing about now, The First Omen hits theaters. I wrote a whole post about that trailer a little bit after that dropped, so if you wanna take a look at that, you can! I’m sure I missed some other ones, but I think you get the point I’m trying to make.

This one, though, is Immaculate. However, the big separation from the other religious horror movies listed above is the studio behind it. Big studios like Sony, Warner Bros., and 20th Century Studios are behind those. Immaculate is backed by NEON, a damn good indie studio that’s had a good run for the past few years or so. In more recent achievements, they have three separate movies nominated for Oscars this year: Anatomy of a Fall, Perfect Days, and Robot Dreams. So, I think it’s worth putting them in the back of your head.

There’s not much plot details for Immaculate, but here’s what we know so far. A young devout woman is offered a fulfilling new role at a convent in the Italian countryside. Her warm welcome is interrupted as her new home’s dark intentions with her come to light. I don’t want to stretch out what the overall plot is, but that’s along the lines of what little details are out about the movie right now.

Immaculate stars Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, the upcoming Madame Web), Simona Tabasco (The White Lotus, Perez.), Álvaro Morte (Money Heist, The Wheel of Time), Benedetta Porcaroli (Amanda, Tutte le mie notti), Dora Romano (The Hand of God, Mafia Mamma), Giampiero Judica (All the Money in the World, Secret Invasion), and Giorgio Colangeli (Mindemic, L'aria salata).

Immaculate comes to theaters on March 22nd, 2024.
