‘His Three Daughters’: It’s A Heart-Wrenching Family Reunion - Trailer
From Ryan Cordaro
It feels like we don’t get a lot of acting-focused movies of this caliber until we’re in awards season, at least not from a major studio. I suppose that calling Netflix a major studio could be weird, especially how they picked up Richard Linklater’s latest movie, Hit Man, just to not really put it in theaters earlier this summer, but if they’re big enough to successfully get nominated or even win Oscars, I think it’s worth calling them a major studio. As we saw with the release of A Complete Unknown’s trailer yesterday, we’re starting to get deep into awards season, and we could have another big contender with His Three Daughters.
His Three Daughters follows three estranged sisters who come together once more to a New York apartment to care for their dying father and fix their broken relationships with each other. The film premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival to exceptional reviews, and the writer/director of this, Azazel Jacobs, has worked with Elizabeth Olsen before on Sorry for Your Loss, a short-lived series on Facebook Watch. I do think this could be an interesting watch, especially since it’s on Netflix and it’s got great actors at the helm like Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne, and Olsen. In terms of awards stuff, since I like to think about this sort of thing, I think it could be a great showcase of the main actors as well as Jacobs, who I haven’t really heard of until this trailer was released.
His Three Daughters stars Carrie Coon (Gone Girl, The Gilded Age), Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face, Fantasmas), Elizabeth Olsen (Love & Death, the upcoming The Assessment), Rudy Galvan (Slice, Megan is Missing), Jasmine Bracey, Jay O. Sanders (The Day After Tomorrow, When You Finish Saving the World), and Jovan Adepo (3 Body Problem, Babylon).
After a limited theatrical run on September 6, His Three Daughters will stream on Netflix on September 20th, 2024.
