‘Death of a Unicorn’ Trailer: Dark Comedy And Horror Mix Into A Mythical Creature
From Ryan Cordaro
It’s interesting to see more and more projects coming out of A24, especially when it feels like they’ve had a mostly successful 2024, outside of somehow not capitalizing on the year being 2024. Like NEON and even Mubi, I like to see some more absurd ideas come to light and especially give them theatrical releases. More recently, in the case of A24, they’ve actually gotten some star power in this one here, a movie which really wasn’t on my radar until writing this.
Death of a Unicorn follows Elliot and Ridley, a father-daughter duo who accidentally crash into a unicorn while they are en route to a crisis management summit. Elliot’s billionaire boss and his family try to use the corpse for scientific reasons, hoping they can funnel out any sort of miracle work out of its supernatural properties, but all of them get more than they bargained for as their research deepens. Again, this is just an absurd idea that just might work. However, it all made sense when I saw that Ari Aster is an executive producer for Death of a Unicorn. Paul Rudd is a very interesting pick for a movie like this, especially teaming him up with Jenna Ortega, who also has a red-hot 2024. On top of all that, we have none other than John Carpenter scoring the movie with his usual collaborators, Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. If it lives up to the hype, this could be a nice little sleeper hit of next year.
Death of a Unicorn stars Paul Rudd (Ant-Man, Only Murders in the Building), Jenna Ortega (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the upcoming Hurry Up Tomorrow), Richard E. Grant (The Franchise, Gosford Park), Téa Leoni (Madam Secretary, Deep Impact), Anthony Carrigan (Barry, the upcoming Superman), and Will Poulter (We’re The Millers, the upcoming Warfare).
There’s no confirmed release date set for it yet, but we know that A24 is looking to release Death of a Unicorn this coming spring.
