‘Damsel’: Millie Bobby Brown Takes On A Dragon In A New, Dark Fairytale - Trailer
From Ryan Cordaro
I feel like it’s been a while since we’ve gotten an original, straight-up dark fantasy movie. Most of the ones I can think of that are in the more modern sense are a good chunk of Guillermo del Toro’s movies, especially his animated Pinocchio film that was released a few years back, which was also on Netflix and even won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. A good fantasy movie in general is something that I’ve been needing recently, and hopefully Damsel will be filling in that void.
Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things, Godzilla vs. Kong) stars as a young woman who agrees to marry a handsome prince and join the royal family, only to find that this family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. She’s thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive. It’s admittedly an idea that’s simple but effective, and I think we need more movies out there right now, as much as I love a good complex movie.
Damsel also stars Ray Winstone (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Black Widow), Nick Robinson (Love, Simon, Jurassic World), Shohreh Aghdashloo (Renfield, the upcoming The Penguin), Milo Twomey (Silent Witness, My Spy Family), Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Orion and The Dark), Brooke Carter (The Peripheral, The Alienist), and Robin Wright (The Princess Bride, Forrest Gump).
Damsel hits Netflix on March 8th, 2024, and there’s no word on a theatrical release.
