The I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel is taking shape in a big way with the reveal for the new cast joining the film.

Madelyn Cline, star of Neflix’s Outer Banks and co-star of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and Camila Mendes, who played Veronica on CW’s Riverdale, are both in talks for lead roles in the film. Also circling the project are Tony Award nominee Sarah Pidgeon, Atlanta’s Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King, who played Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Mendes joining the film makes even more sense as she starred in Do Revenge, which Jennifer Kaytin Robinson co-wrote and directed. Robinson is doing the same on I Know What You Did Last Summer, sharing writing duties with Sam Lansky after an initial script from Leah McKendrick.

Original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are both in talks to join with Hewitt hinting in several recent interviews that she's definitely involved in some capacity.

The original I Know What You Did Last Summer opened in the wake of Scream's success in October of 1997 and debuted at number one at the box office. The film topped the chart for three straight weeks and went on to gross $72 million at the domestic box office & $125.5 million globally on a $17M budget. The cast included Hewitt, Prinze, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe and followed a friend group stalked by a killer with a hook after they tried to cover up hitting him with their car the summer prior. The movie was penned by Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson and based on the 1973 novel of the same name from author Lois Duncan.

Hewitt and Prinze returned for the 1998 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, while 2006’s I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer starred a brand-new cast and went straight to home video.
