Box Office Predictions: ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Set For A Comfortable Second Weekend At The Top

Weekend Box Office Predictions: September 13th, 2024 - September 15th, 2024

Warner Bros.'s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is set to comfortably lead the domestic box office for a second consecutive frame this weekend. The long awaited sequel to 1988's Beetlejuice delivered at the box office in a big way last weekend with a debut of $111.00 million. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is sure to deal with some initial front-loading this weekend, but at the same time the film will also be helped out by its good critical reviews, good word of mouth (Beeltejuice Beetlejuice received a B+ rating on CinemaScore) and by holding onto its IMAX screens. Midweek grosses for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice haven't been out of this world this week, but it is September and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice may prove to be far more of a weekend film (especially given how strong the film held up this past Saturday), even by September standards. Look for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice to decline a sizable 56.8 percent this weekend for a healthy second weekend take of $48.0 million.

This weekend's widest new release is Universal and Blumhouse's Speak No Evil. The James Watkins directed R-rated thriller stars James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Aisling Franciosi and Scoot McNairy. Speak No Evil is playing in 3,375 locations this weekend and has Thursday preview shows beginning early at 2PM. Critical reviews for Speak No Evil have been quite strong. While there is clearly some interest in Speak No Evil, it also appears that the film is unlikely to break out over opening weekend, due in part to not feeling like the most mainstream thriller / horror film. Opening just one week after the launch of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will likely be a tough hurdle for Speak No Evil this weekend as well. Fairly good opening weekend comparisons for Speak No Evil could prove to be fellow Universal release Abigail, which opened with $10.30 million this past April, and Disney / Searchlight's Barbarian, which debuted with $10.54 million back in September of 2022. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Speak No Evil will debut in second place this weekend with $12.0 million.

Meanwhile, SDG Releasing and Daily Wire Studios' Am I Racist? could prove to be a wild card at the box office this weekend. The Justin Folk directed political comedy documentary stars conservative commentator Matt Walsh. Am I Racist? is playing in 1,517 locations this weekend and has Thursday preview shows beginning very early at 1PM. Given Walsh's sizable online following, Am I Racist? will likely make an impact at the box office this weekend. Despite having a significantly lower opening weekend location count, Am I Racist? could potentially open in the same neighborhood as Reagan (which had a three-day start of $7.65 million two weeks ago). BoxOfficeReport is predicting a third place start of $7.0 million for Am I Racist? this weekend.

After declining a sharp 54.7 percent to take in $7.00 million last weekend, Disney's Deadpool & Wolverine is highly likely to re-stabilize this weekend with the opening weekend of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice now in the past. A decline of just 24.3 percent would transfer into a fourth place take of $5.3 million for Deadpool & Wolverine this weekend. That would move Deadpool & Wolverine past 2017's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, into fourteenth place on the all-time unadjusted domestic list.
Also opening in wide release this weekend is Lionsgate's The Killer's Game. The action comedy was directed by J.J. Perry and stars Dave Bautista, Sofia Boutella, Terry Crews and Scott Adkins. The Killer's Game is playing in 2,623 locations this weekend and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 6PM. Lionsgate had a tough month in August and unfortunately it doesn't look like the distributor will be able to turn it around this weekend with The Killer's Game. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that The Killer's Game will debut with a modest $3.2 million this weekend (which would likely place the film in the same neighborhood as the third weekend gross of ShowBiz Direct's Reagan).
