I don’t usually look back to what movies came out in what months for the past few years, but while I was getting things together for this post, I saw that there are a lot of relatively big movies coming out in September, a lot more than usual; Action, drama, comedy, animation, even a big-name director’s vanity project. I don’t really remember a packed September like this happening, but as I said, I don’t look back at it too often. A lot of these movies also happen to be horror movies, with at least one new horror movie releasing every week in September. Bagman is one of them.

Bagman follows a family caught in a nightmare as they are hunted by a malevolent, supposedly mythical creature. It’s sort of like IT, where the Bagman snatches innocent kids and puts them in his rotting bag to eat them. The father, Patrick, had survived an encounter with the creature, but once he and his family move back to his hometown, he now has to protect his own child from the Bagman. It’s been done before, and will probably be done better than this, but horror’s proven to be a popular genre in recent years, so there’s certainly an audience for it. If I’m being honest, though, I feel like even if this is good or bad, this will slip through the cracks of so many movies that are coming out in September.

Bagman stars Sam Claflin (Daisy Jones & The Six, Peaky Blinders), Antonia Thomas (The Good Doctor, Lovesick), William Hope (Eric, Aliens), Steven Cree (The Diplomat, Outlander), Frankie Corio (Aftersun), Adelle Leonce (Black Mirror: Crocodile, Fool Me Once), Henry Pettigrew (The Danish Girl, Line of Duty), Caréll Rhoden, and Will Davis.

Bagman will be released in theaters from Lionsgate on September 20th, 2024.
