‘Ahsoka’: ‘Part Three: Time To Fly’ - Recap

The third episode opens with Sabine doing some training aboard the ship. Ahsoka looks on and they have some playful banter about Sabine remembering her training. Ahsoka says Sabine’s Mandalorian training alone won’t be enough to defeat their enemy and she must open her mind. She gives her a helmet that blinds her and wants her to train without being able to see. Sabine and Ahsoka have a little back and forth, it was nice to see their master/apprentice dynamic at play.

We transition to Hera on the ship briefing the senators on the attack by a couple of imperials on the Vesper. Hera believes the imperial operation there could be connected to Thrawn and that he’s still alive despite reports of the contrary. The senators are skeptical and believe Hera is using the resources provided to find Ezra. Mon Mothma seems to be the only one to believe Hera and says she’ll talk to the other senators. After that her son runs up to her and asks if Sabine is going to be a Jedi, he says he wants to be a Jedi too. It was a nice moment between mother and son.

Sabine wants her training to move a bit quicker so they can go find Thrawn and potentially Ezra. They talk about the Force and she tells Sabine that she needs to be patient and that not everyone can do it. Ahsoka can tell she’s frustrated, but she doesn’t need her to be a Jedi, she just needs Sabine to be herself. Sabine is trying to move a cup with the force as Hera calls over the intercom. She tells Ahsoka and Sabine that the senate committee didn’t approve any resources so they’re on their own. Three ships are tracking them, Sabine is shooting the tail gun at them and Ahsoka is giving her some encouragement over coms. Sabine shoots one down. She sees a ring-like object off in the distance. One of the ships shoots Ahsoka’s and Huyang gets hit. Ahsoka stands in the wing of her ship to get a closer look at the attackers. They shoot at her and they all miss as Sabine is trying to get the ship back up and running. Eventually, Ahsoka loses the three ships through the clouds and a couple of whale-like creatures called purrgill. She lands the ship and their attackers retreat and regroup.

The ring-like object is a hyperspace ring, it isn’t yet complete and there are six hyperdrive engines on it. Huygen says the hyperspace jump it could make has never been seen before. He says that it can be used to travel between galaxies and it uses lanes created by the purrgill. The episode closes with Baylan standing ominously in the ruins we saw him exploring last week. He says the Jedi are in the forest and to hunt them down.

Ahsoka’s third episode was nothing to write home about. It clocks in at about 30 minutes and moves the plot forward a couple of inches. The ship chase through space was well done, we saw Ahsoka and Sabine do some training. We learned that the Senators aren’t sending any help to find Thrawn. Those are the only new developments to come out of episode three. Thankfully there are eight episodes and not six like other shows on Disney+. Hopefully, the fourth episode takes us a bit further plot-wise.

New episodes of Ahsoka debut on Disney+ every Tuesday night.
