I feel like “Jason Statham starring as a guy who beats people up” is becoming a subgenre in action movies. It’s not that I’m complaining because if you haven’t seen Crank, go watch that and tell me we need more of Statham. It feels like the best one since then was The Beekeeper, where Statham plays a “beekeeper,” a former intelligence operator that ends up unraveling a national conspiracy from a phishing scam. It’s those kinds of movies, and Statham has a good monopoly on it. Now, we have another one, even from the same director.

In A Working Man, Jason Statham plays Levon Cade, an ex-black ops agent, who leads a peaceful life with his daughter as a construction worker. However, Levon is forced to use his old set of skills to find his boss's teenage daughter after she goes missing. The deeper he dives, Levon uncovers a criminal conspiracy that has the potential to wreak havoc on Levon's once relaxing life. Statham, who’s a producer on this movie, reteams with his Beekeeper director, David Ayer. There’s also a new draw here: Sylvester Stallone. He may not be starring, but this is Stallone’s script that he’s been trying to get made since 2018. If they play that up in A Working Man’s marketing, this could be a bigger hit than The Beekeeper, which itself was a surprise hit. I think A Working Man could be a lot of fun, if it lives up to the hype.

A Working Man stars Statham, David Harbour (Creature Commandos, the upcoming Thunderbolts*), Michael Peña (American Hustle, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Jason Flemyng (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Arianna Rivas (The Harvest, the upcoming The Black Phone 2), Chidi Ajufo (The Gentlemen, Gladiator II), Noemi Gonzalez (The Tax Collector, Selena: The Series), Emmett J. Scanlan (Peaky Blinders, Argylle), Eve Mauro (Cypher, Age of the Living Dead), and Maximilian Osinski (Ted Lasso, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).

MGM will be releasing A Working Man in theaters on March 28th, 2025.
