Next year’s Scream sequel is starting to take shape as Hayden Panettiere, who played Kirby in 2011’s Scream 4, is set to return to the franchise (per The Hollywood Reporter). Last we saw the character, she came near death, but ultimately survived. Yesterday we learned that some of the stars of January’s Scream film (and… SPOILER… survivors) will be returning, namely Melissa Barrera as Sam, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy, Mason Gooding as Chad, and Jenna Ortega as Tara. The film, slated for release next March, will be the sixth film in the franchise. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Radio Silence) will return to direct from a screenplay to be written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, who wrote the fifth installment. The only plot details we know are that the survivors of the last film’s killings leave Woodboro to “start a fresh chapter,” per Deadline. Production begins this summer for a March 2023 release.
