Warner Bros. Sued Over Streaming Distribution Of ‘The Matrix: Resurrections’

Oh boy. Production company Village Roadshow has sued Warner Bros. over its distribution of The Matrix Resurrections on HBO Max at the same time as the theatrical release. You may remember that Warner Bros. opted to release all of its 2021 films day-and-date on their streaming service, alongside the theatrical debut. Not everyone was happy (Legendary also took issue with this approach due to Godzilla vs. Kong and Dune being in their lineups), but no legislation was brought forward. Now, Village Roadshow is getting aggressive, stating in their complaint that WB engaged in “the deliberate and consistent coordinated efforts” to “eviscerate the significant value of Village Roadshow’s intellectual property.” The fourth Matrix film has grossly underperformed, a result of what Village Roadshow would likely link to the HBO Max release, as well. Stay tuned for more!
