That’s a wrap on Luke Hobbs, it would seem. Dwayne Johnson, who portrayed the character in a total of five films, has been in a bit of a public feud with Fast and Furious franchise star Vin Diesel after “tough love” given to the star from Diesel during the filming of The Fate of the Furious. Over the summer, Diesel took to social media to plead with Johnson to return for the final outing, saying in part “I say this out of love… but you must show up, do not leave the franchise idle you have a very important role to play. Hobbs can’t be played by no other. I hope that you rise to the occasion and fulfill your destiny,” per Deadline. Johnson has declined, telling CNN that he has already spoken with Diesel and “was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return.” He also took issue with comments included in Diesel’s original post that referenced the late Paul Walker, franchise star, and Diesel’s own children, calling the star “manipulative.” The Justin Lin-directed 10th installment in the franchise, the first of a two-film finale, is expected to hit theaters in 2023.
