A New Orleans-Based ’Phantom Of The Opera’ Is In The Works

Hidalgo writer John Fusco’s Phantom spec script, an adaptation of Phantom of the Opera set in New Orleans, has been picked up by Universal Pictures. The idea for the project is said to have originated when Fusco was filming another project in the French Quarter and was reintroduced to the music scene down there, leading to his desire to create a new movie musical. Producer Harvey Mason Jr. (Respect) is also involved, as is John Legend and his production company. The contemporary take on the old tale is currently in early development.
