Speaking with Rolling Stone (via /Film and IndieWire) in the upcoming May 2021 print edition of the magazine, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange was indeed originally planned for the finale of WandaVision. This, of course, was long expected by fans given the show’s build up to next year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch factors heavily into. According to Feige, however, the plan never quite came to fruition in order to avoid another male character showing up to fix everything and help Wanda. There was a deal with Cumberbatch and everything, with the weird commercials in each episode ways in which Strange “attempted to break through her sitcom fabrication.” Feige goes on to say that the appearance of Doctor Strange “would have taken away from Wanda.” Agreed.
