The late Stan Lee was a master of the superhero genre in comics and saw his works flourish on the big screen prior to his passing in 2018. Now, one of his lesser-known stories, Monkey Master, is being adapted for film by filmmaker John Woo. The actual comic book series was never released, but Lee was fond of the character and story, which he described as interweaving “myth to create a modern day hero that will entertain fans across the world with his martial arts skills and unstoppable super-powers,” per Variety. Monkey Master follows Li Yong, a New York City archaeologist who learns of the Chinese legend of The Monkey King and ultimately finds a hidden power in India, transforming into the Monkey Master. Lee co-wrote the series with Graphic India co-founder and CEO Sharad Devarajan.
