Sony & Netflix Strike Huge Deal: What It Means

As the legendary Bob Dylan once sang, “the times they are a-changin’.” In a unique deal within the streaming era, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Netflix have signed a deal that will allow the powerful streamer the first shot at purchasing the rights a theatrically-released Sony Pictures film, beginning with the 2022 slate. Additionally, Netflix will have first right of refusal for any Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group film intended for streaming. So what does this mean for you? Basically any Sony film, such as Morbius, the next Jumanji film, the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel… they could end up on Netflix after their theatrical run. What fun!
