When the original announcement of Warner Bros.’ plans to release the 2021 film slate both in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day was announced, not all were pleased. Legendary Entertainment and Dune director Denis Villenueve took the lead in expressing disappointment, leading to discussions around the release of Dune later this year. Deadline now reports that, due to the box office resurgence seen recently (as a result, ironically, of Legendary’s Godzilla vs. Kong), Dune may end up going just to theaters when it releases on October 1st, 2021 and not debuting on HBO Max at the same time. Stay tuned.
