The trailer for Sia’s upcoming directorial debut Music hit earlier this week, giving us our first look at the film that tells the story of an autistic teenager played by the artist’s longtime collaborator Maddie Ziegler (the film also stars Kate Hudson and Leslie Odom Jr.). The choice to cast a non-autistic actor in the role has created a firestorm over on Twitter, where Sia is angrily defending herself. As users tweeted at the pop star to share their concerns, the artist responded with frustration that nobody has even seen the film and is judging it. After stating that the film’s production was quick and short, which Sia believes would have been too much for an autistic actor, many who identify as autistic responded saying they were available. “Maybe you’re just a bad actor,” Sia responded to one.
