The Oscars To Require Inclusion For Eligibility

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday that, beginning with the 96th Academy Awards in 2024, films will have to meet certain inclusion-related criteria in order to be eligible for best picture. Per CNN, two of the follow benchmarks must be met:

  1. Ensuring that at least 30% of the cast comes from underrepresented groups or are featured in significant roles;
  2. The same as 1, but for the film crew;
  3. Committing significantly to apprenticeships, internship, and developmental programs; and
  4. Significant representation within marketing, publicity, and distribution teams.

These standards have been adapted from the British Film Institute.
