Comic-Con@Home Comes And Goes Without Much Fanfare

With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing the annual San Diego Comic-Con to cancel the in-person geek-fest and instead migrate online, last week’s Comic-Con@Home failed to replicate the excitement of the summer staple. According to Variety, social interactions this year were down about 94% from last year, an absolutely huge drop that was accompanied by an average of 15,000 views on YouTube, a small showing compared to viral sensations on the platform. Slash Film notes the lack of major studio involvement, as well as the pre-recorded videos that didn’t allow for fan interaction, as potential reasons why interest was low.
